Sound familiar?

Most bad connections pass every test the day you make them

The tester beeps, the light comes on, the cover plate goes back on. A year later the plate is warm, the light flickers, or the outlet is dead. Almost every time, it's one connection that was never quite made.

  • The wire nut felt tight, and the wires inside were never twisted together.
  • The lever was down, and the wire stopped short of the clamp.
  • The crimp clicked, and the barrel split along its seam.
  • The plug tester said “correct,” over a jumper someone hid behind the outlet.

The books show the right way, what you should see when it's done, and where it stops being your job.

What you get

Four books, 123 fixes, two printables: $27 for the set instead of $76

Connections That Hold

Book one

Connections That Hold

For when you're splicing, stripping, crimping or adding a cable to a box.

43 fixes for every connection in the house, from the wire nut that's just sitting there to the crimp that split along its seam.

Stranded fixture wire goes in a hair ahead of the solid wire, not wrapped around it. Wrapped, the nut's spring grabs the solid wire and pushes the stranded one aside.

  • Fix 6: A wire nut that's just sitting there
  • Fix 15: Copper showing: the wire that was never seated
  • Fix 22: Seam up or down: which way the barrel goes in
  • Fix 29: The holes in the back

110 pages · PDF and EPUB · $19 on its own

Outlets, Switches and Lights

Book two

Outlets, Switches and Lights

For when you're swapping an outlet, a switch, a GFCI, a fixture or a fan.

35 fixes for the devices you touch every day, with the like-for-like swaps spelled out step by step.

A GFCI wired with LINE and LOAD swapped can still light up and click, and protect nothing. A lamp and thirty seconds tell you.

  • Fix 44: Replace a worn outlet, like for like
  • Fix 55: LINE and LOAD: replace a GFCI like for like
  • Fix 59: The bootleg ground
  • Fix 70: Heavy fixtures and fans need a box rated for them

93 pages · PDF and EPUB · $19 on its own

Test Before You Touch

Book three

Test Before You Touch

For before you touch anything, and for the day something stops working.

26 fixes on testers, meters and troubleshooting, and the panel read through its little door.

A plug-in tester can read “correct” on an outlet with a bootleg ground. Live, dead, live with a two-lead tester is the proof.

  • Fix 79: Live, dead, live
  • Fix 82: What the plug-in tester can't tell you
  • Fix 89: A breaker that keeps tripping: reset once, then unplug
  • Fix 91: Never a bigger breaker

Before You Call an Electrician

Book four

Before You Call an Electrician

For heaters, cords, generators, old houses, and the day you hire it out.

19 fixes for what you plug in and what isn't yours, with the question to ask and what the common jobs cost.

A generator plugged into a dryer outlet can send power back down the street to a line worker. The safe hookup goes through an interlock or a transfer switch, never a cord.

  • Fix 105: Wall outlet only, and the outlet behind it
  • Fix 112: Never backfeed: the cord with two plugs
  • Fix 117: Knob and tube
  • Fix 121: What the common jobs cost

The House Walk

A room-by-room checklist for the whole house, the call-now list, and the fair-price table for the jobs that aren't yours.

Nothing in these books asks you to open the panel. Every fix says first who should do it: you, with the breaker off, or a licensed electrician.

Roy Dalton

About Roy

Every rule shows where it comes from

Roy Dalton is a narrator character created with AI for the Roy Dalton Electric channel. He isn't an electrician, and the books don't pretend otherwise.

What's in them comes from the videos, checked against the 2023 National Electrical Code, the instruction sheets that come in the package, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission and NFPA. Every fix names its source, so a working electrician reading over your shoulder can check it. Where a video got something wrong, the book has the corrected version.

The comments under the videos are full of electricians who keep Roy honest. Where a correction of theirs held up against the code and the instruction sheets, the books use it.

Before you buy

Your questions, answered

Why buy the books when the videos are free?

The videos stay free. Each one covers seven mistakes. The books have all 123 fixes in order, each with the steps, the stop signs and the source, plus the fair-price table for the jobs you hire out. Every video is listed in the back of its book.

I do my own electrical work. Is this for me?

Yes. The books are written for homeowners who do their own small jobs: swap an outlet, splice in a box, crimp a doorbell wire, hang a fan. Every fix says first whether it's yours, and exactly where it stops being yours.

Will it tell me to open my panel?

No. The screwed-on panel cover stays on in every fix. Book three covers what you can read through the panel's little door, and what to ask the electrician who opens it.

Who is Roy? Is he an electrician?

Roy Dalton is a narrator character created with AI for the channel. He isn't an electrician. The books are checked against the code, the manufacturers' instruction sheets and the safety agencies, and every fix names its source.

Where do the rules and prices come from?

The 2023 National Electrical Code, the instruction sheets for the parts, and CPSC and NFPA guidance. Your town may use an older or newer code edition. Prices for hired work are typical U.S. ranges from named cost guides, checked in 2026.

Do I need a permit?

It depends on where you live. Some towns let a homeowner work on a home he lives in with a permit, some don't. Check with your building department before anything beyond a like-for-like swap. If you rent, the wiring is the landlord's.

What format do I get, and when?

All four books as PDF and EPUB, plus the two printables as PDF. Your download page opens right after checkout, and everything is also saved in your Whop account under the email you paid with.

Can I print them?

Yes. The Bench Cards and The House Walk are made to be printed, and printing pages for your own house is welcome.

Is there a free sample?

Yes: Fix 6 and Fix 22, exactly as they appear in the book, plus Start Here, one Bench Card and the "Can it wait till morning?" table from The House Walk.

What if the books aren't what I expected?

Message me within 30 days and you get every dollar back. No questions, and you keep the files.
